Why Con-Cor does or doesn't produce anything?  You have to ask Jim Conway.

Or if you are talking about the MTL model, the last we heard was because of the difficulty obtaining the Chinese-made mechanism.

Meh, I don't care about Con Cor, I was referring to MTL.

So why are they not manufacturing the SW1500 anymore? Hard to pull the trigger at that price, but I do want a GN unit

It got that price due to the increase in the cost of the chassis to us.  As for doing any more, I hope we can, but with walthers unloading their N Scale line we are not sure of the future availability.  Buying the Chassis is not in the cards for us at the moment and who ever picks it up will have to make back their investment in short order...prices will probably go up even more.  Who knows...LOL  My hope is that we can do our own loco at some point in the future, this china thing is fraught with landmines.

Were there any differences between runs of the MTL loco, any mods?

There were three basic options on the engine:
Standard shell with AAR-A RB trucks
Standard shell with Flexcoil trucks
SP shell with Flexcoil trucks

I think the very first release (NS maybe?) came out before the truck sideframes were ready and were released with the Walthers AAR-A friction bearing trucks.

Correct. I have two of them that I look for the correct side frames for before it's too late.
