Atlas GP7/9

I just got this email:

You are being sent this email because the Atlas N Scale EMD GP-7 and EMD GP-9 locomotives will soon be in stock.  (Expected early March). 

There is an error on our web page and we need to confirm your reservaton before we can ship.

Atlas provided illustrations of these locos as standard GP-7, GP-9's.   They are in fact TORPEDO TUBE EQUIPPED locomotives.

Just checked the Atlas web site, the Chessie and Pennsy units are the standard GP9's

Not sure where you are getting this information from but the run that just arrived are all standard units (not torpedo tube).

It is an email from BLW and it was all over their website.  Confusing to say the least.

I just checked their website and now it doesn’t state there was an error. Preproduction photos showed standard. This is just odd.

New email. Apparently the mistake was on Walthers end. They had it listed wrong which led to all this confusion.

WM never had any torpedo tube GPs.  If C&O ever had them , I have never seen a photograph of one.  Of the three, only B&O had torpedo boats, and, as far as I know, it never transferred any to WM.

The only RS-configured passenger power that WM ever had were the four hammerhead RS-3s.  They never had an air tank put onto the hood (as did some NYC RS-3s).  C&O had some RS-configured passenger power, including its two RS-1s, which it transferred to the B&O.  None of those ever had any "torpedo tubes", though.  B&O had torpedo boat GP-7s and -9s.

I got Chessie B&O torpedo tubes and a NYC, I don't have any of WM, I just was wanting a standard Chessie GP9, I might get a Pennsy too. I hope Atlas does some B&O capital dome standard GP9's and I could go for a B&O capital dome GP30, I already have the sunburst GP30.

Atlas did issue GP-9s in B&O "as delivered".  They had the plain blue body, the yellow stripe, BALTIMORE AND OHIO spelled out in gold and the capitol dome herald on the long hood.  They also had dynamic brake blisters (I do not know if B&O ever had any non-dynamic GP-9s, other than the torpedo boats, that is; if it did, never have I seen a photograph of one).  It was quite some time back that Atlas issued these; even before the "scale speed" motors.  Atlas also did issue B&O torpedo boat GP-9s in the original 1955 passenger scheme.

The B-mann GP-7 also appeared in B&O "as delivered".  It does not have the dynamic brake blisters.  I do not know if there were any B&O GP-7s with dynamic brakes.  If there were, I have yet to see a photograph of one.  B&O did have torpedo boat GP-7s.  Electro-Motive delivered them in passenger colors.

i would love to see a GP9 in Southern.Hopefully it will happen someday.
