Atlanta anyone?

I'll be in Atlanta, apparently freezing my California butt, and Savannah/Charleston area over the next couple of weeks. I've made arrangements to see Darryl Kruse's UP Geneva Sub and Mark Bridgwater's Feather River WP/UP. Any other  's here from the general area? Any thoughts about "must see" railroads, real or imagined in model form?

Don’t know Atlanta, but there is a multi-scale club in the mall in Charleston. The have a semipermanent n scale layout. Nice bunch of folks the couple of times I’ve been there. Some railroading around town but no real
Hotspots. No local train store.

Nope, Charleston is definitely not a hot spot for trains. 
I've been stationed here in the Air Force since 2006 and was a member of that club for about 10 years. It's grown quite a bit since I first joined. We moved to the Citadel Mall in 2008 and had to rebuild the N scale layout fom scratch as the old one did't fare too well during dismantling.  However, due to deployments and work schedules I haven't been there for the last couple years.

As for 1:1, I enjoy going downtown to the Port of Charleston off E. Bay St.  Lots of autoracks of BMW exports from Greenville, Sc. They also have regular high/wide come from upstate too. For a while, both the Westinghouse 32 axle schnabels WECX 800 AND 801 were here for components going to a couple nuclear  power stations being built here in Sc and Ga.

While in Atlanta, there are numerous LHS's to visit. One I would recommend is Trainmaster in Buford. www.trainmastermodels.com

Hey Otto, there really isn't any must see in Atlanta hotspots. You just missed the one day trainshow here that was lat saturday. IF you are in the Kennesaw area this weekend, the Southern Museum is having Trains, Trains, Trains this weekend. It's a pretty cool museum, but our N scale club will be there with some other layouts spread out thru the museum.

I was at the Convention Center in Atlanta last year. The railfanning was great as a couple lines run right through the complex.

Otto I will be at Daryl's on Sunday as well. Trainmaster hobby shop in Buford about 30 minutes from Daryl's is a must see.The  Atlanta area has quite a bit of rail traffic and both CSX and NS have major yards. Austell just north west of Atlanta has a railfanning platform.
