2015 was a tri-level autorack.
2016 was the same boxcar as this year, with Sugarplum Mary on it.

They are marketing these as "Santa Helpers". If anyone comes across one of the autoracks, I'm looking to purchase one.

Has Con-Cor upgraded their tooling in the last 20 years, or are these going to be on par with old Bachmann tooling?

Now, if they'd bring back their original 40 ft boxcar and 50 ft flatcar, from the late 60s, I'd buy some.  Those were nice looking cars.  With the original Sekisui (Kato) trucks, they ran well, too.  The flatcars can be kitbashed into 53 ft 6 inch cars a couple of different ways, a lot of roads had actual 50 ft flatcars, and I can certainly use them for log cars.

You mean the cars with the lead-alloy underframes? I must have a couple of dozen floating around. As a teen, I would take a special trip (San Joaquin Daylight!) to Bakersfield, and walk the mile and a half to Friesen's Model Trains, a mind-blowing shop with a huge inventory - in a one-car garage in the middle of a quiet modest neighborhood. He carried Con-Cor, and the two shops at home didn't. The molding was crisp, but the lettering... well, it was the late '60s. I ought to dig them out and let Robyn take a whack at weathering them.

I was also an early adopter of the Kadee couplers with these cars. Body mounting on the Con-Cor cars was a major undertaking because I hadn't yet learned that you needed to drill a couple of sizes larger to tap the soft metal. I broke at least one tap on every car.

...mike:  The earliest cars seem to have had the best lettering.  I'm still running a GN car, Glacier Green, with the three-color herald and standing Rocky.  The herald and goat were actually decaled on, not printed, and the car really stood out among the other late 60s models.  Since they ALSO used a road number that the GN never had, the fact that the GN never had a car quite like it doesn't matter.  It's freelanced, rather than wrong.

As time went by, the printing, and accuracy, declined rapidly.  I also have a GN BSB car, early enough to have the metal Sekisui underframe, which isn't nearly as nice.  The lettering is sharp enough, but the white is completely opaque, and the roadname is both the wrong size and wrong font.  The number is from a real series, but the car is wrong for that series.  If they had numbered it in the same series as the first one, it would have been more acceptable.

Once ConCor changed manufacturers, the lettering really went downhill, and the underframes became plastic, basically leaving a well-detailed shell on a poor chassis with lousy paint.  Some companies definitely don't improve with practice!

BLW has these posted and it looks like it is the 86' boxcar.  There was also an 86' boxcar for last years as well, with Sugarplum Mary gracing the sides of the car amongst some packages.
