So had a buddy of mine install a Loksound decoder into my Kato GS-4, unfortunately for me, he didn't have the shop load the correct sound file, so now I have a GS-4 that sounds like an diesel...

Anyone have a soundloader I could borrow for a week or so, just so I can load the correct sound file, or I can send the loco to you, and you do it?

Where are you located? I can do it, am in the SF Bay Area.

Other than the sounds being wrong, does everything run ok? Lights work as expected?

Which, if I understand it correctly, will be overridden when a new sound file is loaded....so all settings and effects will need to be re-established. However, I may be wrong on this.

Yep, but at least anyone who loads the new file in will know everything is working ahead of time, and can set the functions accordingly. Worse thing is to make an assumption and overwrite the decoder before knowing the functionality is how the owner wants it.

the installed used grain of wheat bulbs, and pretty sure they went poof...so I'm planning on replacing them with SMDs, but otherwise its all good.

If you join the ESU Yahoo group (which may be overkill if you only have the one ESU equipped locomotive) then in the files area is a recently compiled list of people with LokProgrammers willing to program for you. They may be willing to loan one, but that would be a discussion between you and them.

Looking at the list, I don't see anyone from Nevada.  I see Rick and another person in CA, one in Phoenix. I'm in the Dallas-Fort Worth area but mine is packed up on a moving van awaiting our house to be finished around Mid-December. There are also three others in the DFW area listed.

At least if you get the proper sound file loaded, the other settings are just CV values which can easily be done by anyone with JMRI (and the implied computer/command station infrastructure).

No doubt, but even the “drop-ins” require a lot of work. I just put two of the new decoders in Atlas SD50’s. Much easier than the wire ins, but still nonwalk in the park.

I think I’m at that point. I’ve done enough of these installs to justify it. Besides Ike’s steamy Alco that needs fixing, I’d like to be able to program road numbers more easily. I don’t see me have less LoKSound any time soon.
