Just want to give a shout out to Rapido trains and Intermountain Railway Co, both of whose warranty policy is limited lifetime, in that they cover normal failures over the lifetime of the locomotive, even extending to subsequent owners/pre-owned locomotives. It is really great to see both these manufacturers stand behind their products and customers. As expensive as models get, and as attached us modelers are to our trains, knowing that we have the protective cover of the manufacturer to cover failures is very reassuring. However, note that the warranty is limited, if they run out of parts or the failure is user induced, this may still not be covered. Still, it is leaps and bounds better than a time limited warranty policy (Atlas, honey, I love you, but you got to do better than 90 days).
Both these companies have won me over with their superior products and customer oriented service !
