Can anyone tell me if the modernized heavyweight business car body that was originally made for Lowell Smith, but is now being issued by MTL (for example the B&O Silver Spring) is based on a real car and if so, what is it?

Nothing specific I believe. MTL used the same interior as their Observation car which is totally wrong for most business car.

That makes sense in a weird sort of a way. If the car was modeled after a specific prototype then if it was released painted for some railroad which never owned that car that would make modelers grumble.  But if it is a fantasy car to begin with, no matter what road name it is released in, it will always be a 100% foob. Equally so for every release.  :)

When I spoke to Lowell about the car, he stated he wanted a car that looked similar to multiple different protos without matching any one.
