Why not just cut the screws down?  For 00-90 and  0-80 brass screws I use rail nippers to cut them slightly longer than needed, then I dress the cut end with a mill file or sometimes using a Dremel running on slow speed and a cutoff disk (used as grinding wheel because it has a fine abrasive).

No dressing necessary if you thread on a nut before nipping.  Maybe a quick filing for any thin flash, but unscrewing the nut will re-form any distorted threads.

True, and thanks for mentioning that (I forgot to mention this handy hint). But that just re-forms the thread to the point where it is still quite tight. Plus in that condition is is still difficult to start it into a threaded hole.  In my anal nature I still like to dress the end of the screw so it can be started easily and screw in without any resistance.

So I finally got back to the train room today and continued working on this install. First I installed the cap:

I'll seal the cap with liquid electrical tape, I just haven't done it yet.

Then the speaker was installed:


I wish I could get the videos to work...
Tomorrow I should have everything done, we will see.

So, started getting back to it tonight...

First I sealed the cap with liquid electrical tape:


Then I added the resistors to the LED(lights) hookups:


Then, after verifying LED functionality, I glued them to the light housings:




Next I'll seal the LEDs, resistors, and LED common hookup and it will be ready for final assembly!

Got back to it tonight. I hooked up the lights:


Then sealed them off, lubed the mechanism, tuned the motor, then got the video working! Here's the finished product:
