My understanding is that during the testing it was determined that the hydraulic transmission was not suited to our "cooler" climate. Another interesting diesel hydraulic demonstrator, that ended up becoming a shop switcher at the GMD plant in London is this beasty:
Maschinenbau Kiel 800D, a 800hp diesel hydraulic from Germany.It demonstrated on CP and CN in the late 1950's, but there was no interest and it was returned to Germany.
