PRR coaches in NC

Greetings all,

I was cruising through the "sprawling metropolis" :? of Ranlo, NC (just West of Charlotte) earlier today when I spotted two coaches with Keystones on them.  I believe the names were Franklin Inn and Collinsville Inn.  They have fluted roofs and smooth sides.  There is a Trains Magazine sponsorship on each one.   There were two San Louis and Rio Grande engines in front of them.  I didn't have my camera.  Any one know what's up with these?

Thank you,
Bobster

Iowa Pacific took over the Piedmont & Northern. The SLRG units are the new power for the line.  The passenger cars are there for excursions.  They just ran a set of railfan excursions at the end of January using those and an IP full dome.  Not sure when the next excursions might be.

Scott,

Thank you for the reply.   I must be working too much because I didn't know these were in town.

JMarley,

Get off I-85 at Cox Road in Gastonia, NC and head North, away from the shopping centers.  Start by following the hospital signs but go straight at that light.   Cross the Norfolk Southern tracks and turn right at the light.   The cars and engines will be on your left side several blocks down.

Jeff,

As you come towards Gastonia and merge onto I-85 from US 74 you'll notice a mountain with a radio tower to your South.  That's Crowder's Mountain.   I'm right behind that mountain.    Bring as much BBQ as will fit in your car!!!!!!  8)  Seriously, glad I could be of help.

Sounds like you have a great day planned,
Bobster
