Here are some of the preliminary steps I'm taking to cramming sound into one of these bad boys. I think I'm on the right track. Still needs more work.

Note: the picture that looks like it has everything together does not have the decoder in place. I need to mold the speaker resonance chamber/oil bunker more to get the decoder to fit as well. I just wanted to show what it might look like with the bunker in place.

Of course, the bunker needs some rivets and a filler cap.

I have installed a sound decoder in my N scale Atlas truck with good results. I used a DCC sound decoder by C T Elektrik (SL76) which is smaller then the TCS M1 non-sound. The speaker is the smallest cube type that I could find and even then I did a lot of modification. The one thing I wish the sound decoder would have is a bell but since it is only available in EU, no bell sound.

I'll have to look into this decoder. It may be useful in those "good enough" situations.

Did euro locomotives never use bells? Why would this decoder not have a bell sound?

Lol, in Europe they use bells in churches, not locomotives, so the decoder is no bells and whistles, just whistles

Mine have the Lenz Mini Gold and Mini silver installed in them.
There are new decoders now that are even smaller. A sound decoder would be next to impossible as there is absolutely no room in that loco. Even using a cell phone speaker, it would be a problem.
I don't know if anyone has taken one of the small Bachmann locos with sound. They may be smaller.
