N Loco 'Cyclopedia correction Mark

 The Walthers Alco DL-109 does not have all wheel drive. Just had mine out earlier, and had to clean wheels. I notice the center/idler axle wheels were the dirtiest. That's when I realized that they only pick up current.

He's either corrected it this morning or you mis-read it.

"all-wheel pickup (no traction tires), blackened / low-profile wheels, all-plastic gearing, etc. Four of the six axles are geared (the center axles on each truck are free rolling)."

Just looked at 'Cyclopedia, and correction not made. " all-wheel drive and pickup (no traction tires), blackened / low-profile wheels,". Now Xmtrman, read the last line of your quote, in particular, in parenthesis. Maybe you were looking at the Con-Cor DL-109 review.

You must be mistaken. I quoted the Life-Like/Walthers page and didn't even look elsewhere until just now.

Even though there are 3 listings (CC, Kato,LL/W) there are only really two pages.

LL/Walthers is http://www.spookshow.net/loco/lldl109.html
CC& Kato is http://www.spookshow.net/loco/ccdl109.html

Mark lists BOTH flavors as having 2 idler axles. It just says so slightly differently.

The Life-Like/Walthers page is where my original quote comes from and it says "Four of the six axles are geared (the center axles on each truck are free rolling)".

The Con-Cor/Kato page says "Eight of the twelve wheels are geared. ".

So, again, Mark looks right either way

Bob, maybe we're seeing different versions. I have a bookmark in Safari for the 'cyclopedia. Maybe I should go to his home site first, and see. Either way, trains are fun, and great to run on Christmas Eve
