PRR Bumpers

Let's talk about PRR Bumpers.

I think there were two different kinds.
There were the pyramid ones:

And these ones:

I found blueprints for the latter (http://prr.railfan.net/standards/standards.cgi?plan=70100-B&frame=YES&sortby=1), but DKS did the former. I couldn't find plans on that one, but again, DKS.
Anyone else know anything about this stuff?

Alternate version:
Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

The only ones I've personally laid eyes on are the round ones - still standing at the station in Latrobe.  I couldn't say if the pyramid ones were ever on the PRR or not, but the round ones would seem to be more characteristic.

Anyone got photos of the round ones?

I notice that the four divots on the back of the concrete bumper are specified in the plan. They appear to create four small, level footings. What were those for?

Look closely at the plan. They're for through bolts or studs for the buffer mount. Bolts go all the way through the block to nuts and washers on the backside.

Got it. Mounting points for the actual bumping hardware. Thanks! I'd always assumed that they were footings for a structure to hold a light or something.
