Question About Southern Pacific Fruit Express Paint Scheme?

Can anyone tell me when SPFE started using this scheme (as seen on this decal set):

I'm hoping it was used in 1971 or sooner.

Hmm... I'm guessing
1910...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.
"It works! It works!"

Nope, again. SPFE marks came in 1978, when UP and SP dissolved the PFE partnership. Everything was PFE up to that point.

The split may have happened in '78 but the SPFE reporting marks may have started before that, but not as early as '71.

Here's a shot dated '73.

Of course you can't always be sure of the dates listed, but Ron Hawkins has a good record, at least in my book.  He has another shot dated '75.

He also has some freshly painted cars from '76.

I just realized that I got a set of the decals in question today from eBay. I checked them and the two SPFE cars have New dates of 1966 and 1969. Now I'm thoroughly confused.

Hmm... gotta consider
that Microscale NEVER
makes mistakes...

Aha... Jason, you made me look. The reporting mark split came in 1972 (possibly even as of 1/1/72), with the marks reflecting car ownership. The participating roads always owned the cars outright (including WP, for a short period!), but up until '72 they were all in a shared pool with just the PFE marks.

So even backing up from the '78 corporate split, Vincent is still out of luck... by a hair.

The cars could have been new in '66.  I don't fully understand what all the rules were, but once they went to the COTS panel for servicing dates and such, the "NEW' stencil wasn't updated any more.  So a car would say 'NEW' without ever getting changed to some sort of shop or reweigh date.  Maybe someone who models this era has better info.
