Tehachapi Visit

Hi Gang, looks like I may get the chance to visit Tehachapi in the next couple of weeks.  Likely this will be over a weekend, any advice on what the optimal times are nowadays to see as many running trains as possible (e.g. avoiding track work windows)?

Avoid Mondays, especially Monday mornings.  In general weekday mornings are the most likey times for work windows, but with the current heat spell (~110 F in Mojave right now), a broken rail is liable to occur at any time.  It makes for good traffic rushes afterwards though!

Most freight car traffic is geared to arrive by Mon. AM so weekends can still be good for seeing max trains. Just be sure to stay in public areas so you don't get rousted by the rent a cops. The RR police are in most cases are pretty good if you have to deal w/ them. DON'T try to go into the Loop. It can be seen from the road that goes by it. Just drive up the road a bit to the Loop lookout. Bealville is a good place place to see train. It helps to have a scanner but these days there's not much talk on the radio. A good road map will also help.
