Just scored this one on the Bay. What's the laser cut wood for?

Yeah, what Mike said.

Hopefully you didn't pay too much. BLW still has them for $20.40.  http://www.blwnscale.com/discontinued.htm

The pictures I can find show one side of the car.I can see the hatches on this side but I wonder if the hatches are in the same place on the other side?

You realize of course that as soon as you installed those hatches you totally destroyed any collector value this car had!    :D :D

Haven't installed them yet. Do you think this car has any collector value?

Not really - I was just joking.  Thus the smileys.
They are still available new from dealers and for less than street price on eBay (you yourself got a bargain).  But give it 30 years and who knows...  If you worried, you can buy a 2nd car and keep the "factory air" in the jewel box.  :)

It seems that the Micro-Trains collector market is a shadow of its former self anyways.  Misprints and one-of-a-kind still bring in big bucks, but most0other car prices have dipped down.  Even the high priced items fetch less than they did 10 years ago.
