Oh man is that P-company hawt  :D Dave, differently the Milroy Secondary and if you can squeeze in Kovalchick's salvage yard, this leg would be smokin hawt.  As far as how the Standard Steel is laid out, it's pretty basic when it comes to mills.
  • Scrap receiving at overhead cranes
  • Melt shop with electric furnace
  • Cast house for wheels and axles
  • Shipping & Receiving

Standard Steel uses an electric furnace to melt scrap steel, so there is no need to model things you would find at a integrated mill, such as iron ore, coal, coke and a blast furnace. A electric furnace fits neatly into a mill building, not requiring any extra chimneys or stacks. You can create the complex as a bunch of large warehouse type building such as the Vulcan kit produced by Walthers.

Wait, I'm getting confused  :facepalm: Are you talking about Krentzman Scrap yard in Maitland or Kovalchicks scrap yard in Indiana (i.e. the people that currently own the East Broad Top)  I think we're getting our names confused?

All these ideas look great, But i do believe this needs to be moved to the Layout Engineering Reports before Peteski complains about everything being in the N-Scale forum again.  :D :facepalm:

If you keep most of the as-laid track from Enola as just spurs for the mill, it will save that module as a possible yard if you wind up buying a Southern mansion and have space to build a second piece of yard that mates to the Enola-A one. Recycling in a grand way, with viable options for the future, and not much muss and fuss.

This is the BOF I built for another modeler, using as a base a Walthers HO kit of one of their steel series building. I didn't have a chance to assemble it before I moved from the town where the guy's layout was, but I wanted a picture so I taped it together for the shot.
These buildings are the easiest things to model: just giant windowless boxes of seamed steel panels, with some huge vents and pipes sticking out. The "doors" are just openings without frames. And there is more variety in the kinds of piping and junctions of the larger Plastruct stuff. Considering you could drive an SUV through most of a steel mill's ducting, that's the comparative sized ducts I used.
