I recently purchased flexible LED strip lights during the holiday close outs at Canadian Tire.  They are Noma branded and have an integral 120V plug, are outdoor rated and the 18' length can be easily extended with a simple screw plug end connection that is also weatherproof.  The 120V power supply can be removed for this purpose.  They claim you can run seven strips in series like this, something like 30W total.

I have not mounted them yet, but this UL/CSA approved power solution is nice rather than cobbling together a wall wart or something else.  The plugs are also very durable and should stand up to repeated use.

The regular price was about $20, which is pretty good given what you are getting and does not require shipping costs.

How would you mount/wire those options?

Something like this?

I did something like this. Not only do the foreground items get backlit, but annoyingly, the bright LED's reflect off any shiny objects in front of valance on lower deck, like tracks, and bounce back up in your face.

In my opinion, where there is a shallower upper deck over deeper lower deck, the lower deck needs to be lit from elsewhere, and more subdued lower deck lighting should only take care of backdrop and areas that cannot be reached from main light source.

Oh, and where there is no upper deck, move the light source past the front edge

I've got 2 decks that are pretty much exactly the same depth.
