Ah, I forgot about the one keeper found.
The early locos of this size and type had fairly crude motors in them, and the worm drove the worm gears directly on the axles. That, along with the fact that these are relatively light models with only 4 tiny wheels on the rails made them rather poor runners. Combine that with plastic turnout frogs and they become frustrating to operate.
My recommendation would be to pick up one of the current releases by either Minitrix or Arnold. They have better mechanisms (but there is nothing that can be done about the light 4-wheel design).
Plastic frogs is the reason I lost interest in it in the first place.I'm not looking for this for a primary loco for my railroad,I plan on getting most of them.Don't care about the 4 wheel thing,just makes it more interesting..Back in the 50's,there was a local commuter line that folded up,Erie took it over,just their freight service.The old electric motors used to be able to pull a dozen cars out of one particular coal operation,the Erie 44T they replaced it with,[#56] could barely pull 6.That made for some interesting operations..As long as it runs over powered switches,I'm happy..This same RR will see service with a Bachmann Dockside...
