Limestone here in Kentucky comes in various grays and yellows, and crushed limestone is usually a different color from the chunks. Limestone DIRT is usually yellowish-brown, the chunks can be almost any color that limestone comes in, depending on how long they've been exposed, and the crushed limestone tends to be off-white to light gray regardless of the chunk color. A fresh limestone road cut often shows layers of various shades of gray, then turns yellowish, reddish, or dark grayish as iron in the rock and water oxidizes and stains the surface.
