Nice to see a glimpse of the MTL facility at work.

Some of you folks are funny. As soon as "MTL" comes up, it's a mad "dash to bash". IMO, it's great to see this USA company still putting out a variety of quality products.

You may like some, you may like none, but it beats the hell out of seeing a company set up in "tents" producing product overseas, with just an office in the "States".

Interesting operation, and yes I know that some of the MTL products are made over the sea, so you'll have to bash me liking the MTL operation for something else. LOL

I really enjoy seeing things like this. TO see how items are made. The machine shop and casting shop was really cool. I really like seeing molds being made and then being put to use. Nice to see everything made under one roof.

Now I have just one question. With the rather large and extensive library of research material (and I did see the Penn Central Freight Car Color Guide book), why can't they put the appropriate number series on cars? Just curious.

Variety is one way to describe it, I am always impressed, and grateful, when I see the LHS display of their trucks and couplers, wheels, replacement parts etc.

Neat video, too. I'd like to see similar video from our other N scale mfg's.

As far as the CRT monitors go, there is something to be said about them.  Generally, even the less expensive ones (if there ever was such a thing as an inexpensive 21" CRT), their color rendition was much better than your average (or even higher end) LCD monitor.  This applies to both CCFL ,and LED backlit LCDs.  CRTs were better at rendering yellow-orange-red color gamuts.  Plus the viewing angle was much better on CRT monitors. While I do like my 1080p 24" LCD monitor, I also miss my Sony CRT beast!

I made it a point to dispose of all of our CRTs 8 years ago. It was becoming apparent even then that disposal was about to have a cost, but then it was uncertain as to how much, especially for industrial users. I had my share of Sony monsters (a 32" at home!) and they were lovely, but in the shop the color rendition would noticeably drift after 3-4 years, even with a calibration puck. Power supplies and especially flybacks became quite an issue after five years of constant use by two shifts. I had enough TV repair experience to mess with the first two or three that died, but after the local Sony parts house closed their doors it became far more trouble than just pitching the things... while they could still be pitched.

I have an extra LCD flat screen monitor, can I ship it to MT for credit towards the new lines of heavyweight passenger cars?  Really can I???

we've been involved in a lot of upgrading in critical production and development departments...at some point we plan on getting flat screen monitors

Keep the expresso bar .. but definately get the new monitors.. prices have dropped so low on flat panels, that it's almost a no brainer to upgrade ..
