Lowering the TrueLine newsprint boxcar

I don't remember if I followed up on the thread from a few months back on lowering the TrueLine newsprint car.  Equipping the model with BLMA 100-ton ASF Ride Control trucks fitted with 33" wheelsets does the job.  MTL 1015 couplers are mounted directly to the floor.

Why not the BLMA 70 ton ASF truck?

Because the prototype uses a three-spring truck that closer resembles the ASF 100-ton, but the prototype rides on 33" wheels.  Plus, you have the added benefit of picking up an extra scale 1½" on lowering the ride height.

The upper track for the plug door isn't long enough.

This is the first iteration of the tooling where the upper track was shifted one panel to the left.  I'll modify this myself eventually, as I wasn't pleased with the look of the retooled model.  Plus, I need the all-brown cars and not the yellow-door versions, and TLT never reissued the first release schemes on the retooled model.

Now why didn't I think of that.

Now that you mention it, yes putting 33" wheels on BLMAs 100-ton trucks does lower the car an additional 1.5 scale inches. That will come in handy on a few freight cars I think are just a little too tall.

The all-brown deco looks better on the model though.  Conveniently (for me) it happens to be the later scheme.

Thanks, Bryan B.  I just picked up two PGE cars this past weekend.  Now to get the BLMA trucks.
