Facebook is on many peoples smart phones. They get updates the minute it is posted. They see the post and if it is something that interests them or somebody they know, it gets reposted to circles outside of the original announcement. I can walk into work and some of the other employees (and customers) are already asking for info about a product which was just announced on facebook that moring. So much for waiting for the next months magazine to come out to see what is new.

Faster than mags I understand , but I never read a thread on TRW that proclaimed the source as FB , you ?

Actually, quite a few. I believe pictures of the Atlas S2 was first seen on facebook. BLMA has a habit of announcing on FB. Athearns announcement of the HO GP-50 was done on Facebook first. Even Kato has hinted at some announcements on the way on FB.

Make that FB and Twitter. They usually blast on both at the same time.

I am pleased to see SKIPGEAR post on this topic.  I know he works at a Hobby Shop
and is knowledgeable about the hobby industry.
I suspect after wading through the comments on this topic that many of the negative comments
come from people who neither have F/B or if they do, they are not attempting to follow the n-scale
interested/focused and model railroad items currently on F/B.

I would like to respond to Athearn's survey on FB.

Those of us who prefer to sit out Facebook* are free to send Athearn suggestions via their web site.  They do read them, and they'll even respond if you have a well-posed question.

Athearn is polling a group who's largest demographic is 18-24 year old females in order to determine model railroad manufacturing decisions.

If that's true, they are having far easier with that group than I am.

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.
