No skirting options on this. Our one artist blacked out part of the sill and I missed it on the artwork. Looks good in the photo, but looks pretty ridiculous in person. It'll look much better if you take a #11 and a file to it instead...  :scared:

Cory,
Any plans on updating to the solid sill\walkway, like the second gen EMD stuff? There are a lot of benefits to this for the modeler, but just wondering why it wasn't adopted on the GP-7/9 and GP-35 to name a few.

Thanks,
The S.

I, too, wish Atlas would continue the development of these early geeps......especially more side sill options (the frame is very wrong for the B&M units, for example). I would love to see a chop nose option, as the SD-26 cab actually snaps into place once the nose is chopped. I would also like to see a correct GP-18 made by Atlas, with correct fans and such......The drive train exists, now they just need to tool up some more options for us.......Just my 2cents....

Better see about having some more WM cab fronts for chopnoses whipped up.  Might be some demand for such.  Which I had the budget to round out the fleet.

Everything looks better in Orange and Black!

Thanks for posting the information.

Best wishes, Dave

I have to agree with that affirmation, but at the same time I also have to wistfully add that I wish Atlas would someday release a GP9 with dynamic brakes in Milwaukee orange and black. They did have some that saw service on the Coast Division but out of I believe three releases Atlas has done of Milwaukee road numbers for the GP7/GP9, none have been dynamic brake units.

It sounded like a good idea at the time... too bad the caboose wasn't in on the plan.

Don't think the MILW had GP7s.

And with the GP9, I would think that if there is a number series with DB that aren't ph iii (48" fans), Atlas would do them but I think that's been the sticking point.

Milw had no GP7 as Jason said. Milwaukee had GP9's with DB some with 4 36 fans such as road# 273 and some with 48 inch fans such as # 326, info is from Milwaukee Road diesel power by Hyde and Sanders. An everything looks better in orange and black :D

A low nose mechanism would be nice to see, I too have a number of GP-7 shells and SD-26 cabs waiting for conversion to MEC chopnosed units. It would be nice to see an appropriate version of the GP-18 for the B&M(36" fans). I also wouldn't mind the phase 3 GP-9 with 48" fans, and another run or two of CV/GT Torpedo Tube passenger GP-9's.

Would Lee's etched cab fronts help?

No, when the Maine Central chop nosed several oF it's GP-7s it put the number boards and headlights on the cab front, they did however re-use the original classification lights on the newly lowered short hood. So the Atlas short hood need to be cut off, lowered, and have the number board and headlight openings filled in. I have no problem with that work, I just wish the locomotive frame halves under the shell were more friendly to chop nosing. I have a few Lifelike GP-20 mechanisms from the $20 Union Pacific sale of many years ago, but not enough for the number I eventually plan to do. If Atlas made a mechanism for the GP-18 it would work well for those of us kitbashing chop nosed 7/9s. And Walthers doesn't reissue the old LifeLike very often at all.

I wasn't implying that the Milwaukee had GP7's: it's just the fact that for this particular locomotive body style, Atlas have never done a Milwaukee version with dynamics. It would be a GP9, of course, for the Milwaukee. but most people some to give the impression that this particular shell version stands in for both a GP7 or a GP9.

I can see I've been challenged to a duel of scale rulers at 30 paces, however  :D .

Brian,
The split frame LL GP18 chassis is made for low nose shells. No modifications needed, not even to the fuel tank area like on the GP20. Every once in a while they show up cheap on feebay as pulled from train sets. I have a bunch and they run superb.
