I never understood what the big secret was about the number of units in production runs. Why don't manufacturers release that info? It seems to me that if the consumer knew the minimum number of units that needed to be sold to justify a production run that many more people would pre-order. Dealers may jump in too. In this day and age of the internet, how hard would it be to do this? I bet you could even do it by roadname for a particular model. IM cancelled roadnames, but continued to produce the models under those roads that got the orders.
I have wondered this very thing myself. But if I had to guess, it would be that they really don't want people knowing how many theyproduce because that would give us insight into how much money they are making. Most companies don't really wantthe whole world knowing how much money they are making (or losing, if they are doing poorly).
Let's hope they aren't actually making too much money using this type of manufacturing strategy. What I don't appreciate is how announcements of this type seem to send some people into a tailspin and they start stumbling around carrying signs saying 'the end is near' or responding to any discussion with the short summation that 'n scale is dying, and Walther's already knows it'.
N scale is fine. Walthers is dead to me. Better? Jim
And preordering with the intent of cancelling... Boy, that just strikes me the wrong way.
