Confirmed: Wheels of Time thinking about making a Road Commander

I received an email from Mat Young today. They ARE considering a White/Freightliner Road Commander for production. They are unsure how popular it would be.

Email Matt at matt@wheelsotime.com and show your support!

For those unaware, the White/Freightliner Road Commander day cab was used in LTL truck services like Consolidated Freightwats, Roadway, Yellow, and I think even UPS had a few. The trucks were also used in vacational use work like dump trucks, cement mixers, heating oil trucks.

Wow!

That would be terrific if it came to fruition.

Those tractors were all over when I was young.

The image you posted a link to is a White Freightliner, not the same as the White Road Commander, which is an entirely different truck, as seen below...

White was gone by 1980, but the trucks would still be around in the late 80's, so I'd be in for Consolidated Freightways and unlettered trucks... CF could be seen in Canada, not so sure about RW and Yellow.

Wasn't the Freightliner the basis for those ubiquitous HO Athearn cabs?

Reasonably
certain that I saw one of those around POLA/LB (stuck in the usual epic long Beach Freeway gridlock) last time I was there.  Must have been 2005/06 or so.  Faulty memory thinks that it had a rustoleum yellow spray bomb paint job and fancy hand lettered ownership infomation indicating a trucking company out of baja california mexico.  Should have gotten a photo but no joy there.  I would be glad to buy a few of these imediately upon release if they became available...

As noted above, the White Road Commander and the Freightliner were two different trucks.  Here is portion of a reply post to this same thread on the N Scale Vehicle Association's Yahoo Group which answers the question when the Road Commanders first appeared:

This is a quote from the book Freightliner Trucks 1937-1981 Photo Gallery:

"In 1951, Freightliner signed an exclusive sales and service agreement with the White Motor Corporation of Cleveland, Ohio.  Contrary to the suggestion encouraged by White Motor, this was not a merger.”

The agreement was terminated in December 1977.

The White Road Commander was the successor to the White 7000, and was introduced in 1972.  Boyd Models imported an N scale White 7000 in the 1970s.  The model was manufactured by Roskopf Miniatur Modelle (RMM), and it is still a decent model if you replace the wheels with some that are more prototypical.

Edit:  Here is a photo of the Boyd Models White 7400 TDB with a Con-Cor trailer.  Both models were made by Roskopf, and are from the very early 1970s.

When will it be confirmed that WOT is not just thinking about it, but actually really certainly without-a-doubt going to produce such a model? I could use multiples, provided pricing allows such a possibility.

I thought I'd resurrect this thread to see if Daniel or the recently joined WOT staff might have anything to add about this possible release. Lord knows we 60s and 70s era modeling N scalers could use it. Anyone?
