More AutoScenes Announced

Woodland Scenics announced two more AutoScenes for N scale that were previously
released in HO. The Lumpy's Coal Company truck is based on the "Mack E Series"
and the HO version of Paul's Fresh Produce truck is a close approximation of mid
1947-1953 Chevrolet pickup.

I waited eagerly for that lumber truck in n-scale.
These are two I will watch for at the LHS.

Hate to complain, but WS seems to believe that all N scalers are modeling the 1950's.

It's image licensing, Mike. There is some sort of magic cutoff around '54 or '55. The 1:1 car makers have been hyper-aggressive with model makers "profiting" from "representations" of their products. GM is especially bad, with obnoxious minimum run sizes that make it unreasonable to produce N car models. Ford is a little friendlier in this regard, but as you may note the selection remains limited. Anyway, that magic 1955 for U.S. car models is apparently a dividing line for enforcement.

The '60s and later GM models you might be able to buy on eBay are produced under the radar. A major market player like Woodland Scenics has to do everything on the up-and-up.

Ah, so there is a reason. I can't fault the car makers for wanting a slice of the action, though there is a difference between those expensive reproductions an lowly N scale cars and trucks.

Interesting that GM didn't care about all those profiteering companies like Atlas and Kato and Intermountain, etc, getting rich off of their locomotive models without licensing

On the subject of barns, one ubiquitous style conspicuously absent from the market is the mid-Atlantic style bank barn.  They had regular A-shaped roofs and were typically vertical board siding over a brick or stone first story.  The long wall with stall doors on the first floor was the front, and the back had an embankment leading up to the second floor loft (hence the name "bank barn").  Would be nice to see a northeastern-oriented company produce one of these PA/MD style barns.

So is the Mack E the Barr lumber truck too? I haven't seen it @ Kleins yet, so I assume it's not hit the marketplace yet, but I could use a cab or two for a West Coast stretch frame tractor or some such playful oddity.

Yeah its the same. I have the logging rig. Its not bad, but the rear wheels are really spaced wide. If it wasn't $20, I would say the cab has some real potential.

The as delivered version of Tim Burr's logging truck is really only useful when incorporated into the suggested scene.  All eight of the rear tires are flat!

However, it does have kitbashing potential, especially now that Trainworx offeres the 10.00 X 20 Dayton spoke wheels as a separate accessory.  The truck's rear wheels are glued to the chassis, so it looks like it should not be to difficult to cut them off, and drill holes for the Trainworx axles.
