Pole spacing along the right of way

I've observed that the spacing depends on the load. Lightly loaded poles can about 160' apart (33 per mile, as quoted to me in NM years ago at $100 per pole), although I've seen them 320' apart. More heavily loaded poles will be much closer together.

I recall reading that the distance between telephone poles and power poles differs or differed in the past.
Just road Amtrak recently between Bloomington/Normal and Chicago, IL.  This is the former Alton route.
There are many abandon poles with dangling wires; I think telephone or telegraph.    Interval?
These look about a passenger car length apart.

It probably depended on the road.  Some of the lines here in eastern Kentucky seem to have used poles short enough that one could grab the wires while standing on the ground.  Those would almost have to be closer together than taller poles.
