Quiestion about HO Athearn 62' tank car

Anyone got one of these handy? I need the diameter of the tank so I can find a suitable N scale model to carry out a downsized version of an HO scale kitbash.

I happened to have one on my bench and saw this. Pulled out the calipers and got 1.19"
Vincent

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.

Thanks, Vincent. Now I need to find an N scale straight profile tanker with a diameter close to 104". Anyone have an Athearn 30K or 33.9K or Atlas 20.7K and calipers hanging out?

I may be working on the same project as I just sent off a drawing for a tank blank* with a .65" O.D. and two holes for truck centers so I can work on the bolsters and frame.

Still mulling over tank strap options...  Worst case, I leave them off like every other manufacturer and be good with it.

*I won't be able to get the actual tank done until later this year.

Jason,

It's a 60s gas tank car that I saw someone do an HO version of in an old RMC. I'm still trying to find a proto photo of one though. I've got some computer time tonight and will scan the model photo in to show. If you're working on a tank body I'd be interested. Thought about doing the frame too?

I'm working on a CGW tank car, unless you're Richie, then I'm working a UP tank car.  :)

Athearn 30k tank is 0.750" dia. and 4.043" long.
Atlas 20.7K tank is 0.661" dia. 3.797" long
. . . 42 . . .

This is the tank car I want to model. It was made by shortening an Athearn 62' tank car (in HO obviously).
