I have seen photographs of B&O cabooses on mail trains that operated to, from or through Washington or Baltimore.  Usually the cabooses were being sent to the shops in Cumberland or Baltimore for major repairs, but sometimes they were simply deadheading to or from division points.  Particullarly for shop runs, you would see three or more.

For mail storage and Railway Express Agency movements, 25 Class M-53 Boxcars were equipped with steam and signal lines in 1939. so they could be operated in passenger trains. They were re-classed C-16 and numbered 1875 through 1899.  In 1941, 42, 43, and 45 additional cars were equipped (25 each year) they were numbered 1900 through 1999.   Over the period from 1947 through 1959 the cars were returned to freight sevice.

The question is about FVM B&O Wagontop BoxCars. Some of these in the first release are listed as C-16.

I am hoping the B&O Wagontop REA cars occasionally strayed far out of their system. If they didn't, well, I'll just pretend that they did.

I don't have any B&O trains, but I do model Chicago and its passenger trains.  So I am banking on some of these going into interchange.
