Hello.

Stoves on the Rebound.

Here is a slideshow of some of my stoves. 

They are all pulling private varnish excursions as we celebrate RailFest 2012.   This way I can justify having them on my layout, at the same time.  Grin!

I figured this might work as a way to introduce myself to those I've yet to meet on RailImages and  a great way to say hello to my old friends.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.    Seems a bit cold here in Big Bear Country...these days.

Took me a little bit to understand that by "stoves" you were referring to the steam locomotives...

Can you explain a bit about your layout's concept?

I'm an Eastern guy, but I enjoy N scale steam as well.  Pennsylvania Railroad steam in N scale is a labor of love, and I owe my kit bashing skills to the lack of RTR PRR steam options.

Here are two of my PRR steam locomotives; a kitbashed PRR class L1s 2-8-2 and a reworked brass PCS K4s class 4-6-2.  Turn up your speakers!

Your video is just simply... awesome.

For a half a second or better I thought I was looking at the real deal...what with the scenery and all.    Nice capture and I love the Pennsylvania Trains.    Not to forget the remarkably accurate sound.  Love the video.

I wish my layout was that far along.

You might appreciate this.   Oh, no pictures as of yet but at the end of my N&W, PV, excursion train you'll find a Pennsylvania Observation car.    I guess that makes me a crossover?   Ah western to eastern...nothing else implied.

To answer your question.   The setting is more or less fictitious, as in namesake "The Williams and Ashfork Division of the H&P Railroad".    A bridge route of sorts where various Western Trains can be seen coming and going.    Basically a snap shot of several locations that resemble Cajon Pass, San Bernardino, Williams, Colorado Coal Mines, the Durango and Silverton Railroad, in an earlier Rio Grande setting.     All set in an area that will resemble the canyon walls of Mesa Verde, AZ., although, marginalized for effect.   I don't have the room to push all my favorite places into this layout and it will be tricky at best, to make it look right or acceptable.

A multi-level railroad with a double helix on  the main and a triple helix for the coal district.    Sporting a six track hidden staging yard,  a three track siding for the San Bernardino A Yard,  a third main for the Durango and Silverton run  (not yet built).    It has been described as a spaghetti bowl or folded over "Pretzled" dog bone with two reversing loops and one wye.   Why? I don't know but it fits right in to the layout.    Lastly one end will sport a grainery similar to the one that sits near Devour, Ca., near San Bernardino, Ca.    A turntable and round house.   To be operated via DPDT toggles with analog DC and DCC.

All housed in a 10 X 10 metal shed, the train shed.    Not something I'd recommend.   

Train time at the station can be interesting at times.    WP' California Zephyr, Santa Fe's, San Francisco Chief and El Capitan, SP's, Coast Daylight and San Joaguin Valley Daylight, UP's City of Los Angeles and various mail trains.    Not to forget the PV specials that meander into a  station that closely resembles the Santa Fe Passenger Station, San Bernardino, Ca.    Credit for construction to go to one Greg McGinnis.

I should have responded earlier to your comment about "Steam Heads". 

"Stoves" is what my family of Rails called the Steam Engines.     They also used the moniker "Hog Head or Hogger" in place of Engineer.     

Never heard "Steam Head" used by Rails.      Pretty much a model railroading thing.     I hope you won't mind if I keep such rail lingo, alive and well.    If only preserved here.

I had heard the term "steam head" over at the Atlas board not to describe engineers but referring to those of us who have no fear of cutting apart a perfectly good model steam locomotive to make something new out of it, or to improve its running characteristics.

Steam Head, used as you described... it's a perfect moniker.     The last thing I want to do is whittle on my stoves but if needed and I see them as junk...anyways.    I will get the torch out and start to tear them down in hopes of ending up with a better locomotive.

Steam Head, yep I could be one of those.
