Is it a covered hopper and what would it carry?

According to rrpciturearchives.com they are covered hoppers. It also says they belong to "DeGussa Corporation." I looked and they deal with the petrochemical buisness (plastics, pharmaceutics, etc.). So it's probably a chemical hopper car. Weird considering it kind of looks like another manufactuer's version of an airslide.

I think this car is the same car (maybe even taken near the location of the one you posted):

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.

Packer,
That's indeed the same place - just the opposite side of the tracks!

According to the comments that style of 2 bay covered hopper is made for carrying "carbon black" but someone commented that the blue cars actually carry "fumed silica".

Looks like the cars that I used to see coming in to Goodyear back in Lincoln, except theirs were always black.   Carbon Black, as the previous poster mentioned, would fit the bill, as it's used in the production of rubber products.

Yep, fumed silica. The boxy shape is similar to carbon black cars, but this is a slightly different design.

Fumed silica - one of the uses is to thicken milkshakes.
