Drive Systems for Animation on Layouts

I have a number of different drive systems I've used over the years for animation projects at the park and on engineering models, but have found that these Tamaya drive kits are really great for model railroad apps.  I am scratchbuilding a turntable and wanted to go very slow and picked up one that has a reduction 1-5000 +  I figure it would take a day to turn an engine around with that one.!    These kits are pretty inexpensive and most hobby shops that have RC will have them in stock.

Our shop carries a full line of them. It's amazing how usefull they have been. I just helped a gentleman set up an HO turntable with one, including DCC control and an Auto Reverse on the bridge.

Can I refit my pre-DCC Walthers turntable with a new drive?  I fried the electronic control, and it now just sits there staring at me.

It would take a lot of gutting. I would look into getting a stepper motor controller to drive the turntables existing motor. I believe it is a stepper. If not, then use the existing motor and wiper arrangement to be driven with a decoder. You loose the programable stops but gain a working turntable.
