I concur that the coach looks like a keeper; I like the end ladder drop, the brake wheel and the doors looks quite well detailed. The sides of the steps are a bit thick but that's a uber small issue. I don't care what the underside detail is or isn't on cars of this nature and I agree the roof is well executed. The 10 paired window set makes it a good candidate for some bashes as well.

At first blush Bachmann did another fine job.

The coach looks very good, and includes a well detailed roof that is superior to the MTL heavyweight roofs (other than the RPO).  I hope they decide to offer the coach model separately.

Much nicer roof.  Finally something on the plain side with good undercut detail on the side of the clearestory.  In the photos there appears to be quite a bit of arch in the clearestory roof as well, but hopefully it looks good in person and a couple kitbashed roofs will make excellent foder for casting replacements for the MTL cars.

Forgot to mention the car is also lighted. The lighting is a bit orange and bright but that can probably be toned down. We can only hope they sell these seprate, the trucks and roof are problem solvers by themselves.

That coach also looks like it could be a step-off for a PRR P70 stand-in.  The length and window count are correct.

The coach is reminiscent of a car that had the gothic type windows covered with a wider letterboard, though the vestibule doors really need to have the old width of the letterboard above it... like what is found on the Wheels of Time Harriman coach.

Quality?  Its not bad but could have been done better... but we are talking about Bachmann.  Comparing the roof to MT's offerings is a difficult thing to do... the old Lima and Model Power models have vents molded in to the recess of the roof overhang... but I still would rather have the MT roof.  I can always figure out a way of adding the lip if I really felt that it was necessary.

I am not certain whether the Abraham Lincoln on the Alton RR line of B&O is considered a doodle bug.
This photo is labelled as 1938 out of Chicago.  I purchased it at an antique shop.  Do not know who to give credit for taking it.

 That is Boxcab #50. It's not a doodlebug as it is a diesel electric. It was their first passenger diesel and was a test bed for the EA's.

The Bachmann roof is pretty much a blank slate.  With a lip.

The Lima/MP cars have some detail in the clerestory sides, sure, but it's that diamond pattern and not applicable to much. 

The MTL roof tooling has been downhill since the RPO.  And you have to carve off the poorly molded roof vents. And you'd have to add the lip.  (That lip is not trivial to add... I've tried strip styrene and I've tried overlaying a full sheet of styrene on top with an overhang.  Neither is easy or sufficient for a full train's worth of roofs.)  About all you might be getting is the panels molded into the MTL roof, but look close and you'll see the thicknesses vary and the end panels are poorly executed on the new coach.  I can more easily add my own panel lines or vinyl panel overlays than I can add that lip. 

And before Pud tells me I'm not a modeler again because I'm bagging on MTL:

Yeah, I know...  I have one I added correct trucks to, but I'm not relishing adding the belt stripes and letter board stripe.
