Are you sure about the skinny vs. FVM.  I have not measured anything, but when I received my BLMA reefers, I felt their metal wheels were a bit thicker than FVM.   

BTW, I missed seeing your set up at RPM.  Are you going to be Trainfest and, if so, have their been a lot of changes/additions since last year?

I was looking at tread width.  Have you tried a string of BLMA reefers or spine cars on your track?  If they would run well anywhere, I'd expect your layout would be even tighter tolerances than our modular layout. 

We will be at Trainfest.  There's been more scenery and detailing progress since last year, but I think we had all "green" modules by Trainfest last year so it won't be a striking difference.

I had a lot of problems keeping my BLMA 5unit well car on the track .. once I changed out to FVM, tracking improved to the point I could actually run the cars in the train reliably ..  .. but I will stick with the FVMs for now ..

I've had no problems with the reefers, but had one spot where the spine cars would derail.  It was under the stairs where the mainline transitions from one room to another and the track was not perfectly level.  Once I leveled out the track all was fine.  I have not yet pushed the spine cars through a yard throat yet. 

BTW, trying to stay on topic, I really like Mike's layout too.  Excellent work!

Again, I respect the guy for his abilities, but question why the rebuild of essentially the exact same layout design and locale.

I love Mike Dannemans layout.  It's really amazing, even if I look at the pictures and think, "Nice, but there's no way in hell I would want to deal with the maintenance of it."  I can't wait for the issue to arrive here in Germany (likely in January).

I actually bought a copy of MR, instead of just reading my Dad's when I visit, specifically for Mike's layout.

I was not disappointed. What a great layout. We need to get him to hang out here.

 Mike's layout is spot on and very accurate. His modeled scenes, brings back to mind my younger days of railfanning the Moffat line.  Hope Mike will include the modeled ski train in the future. Truely very pleased to see Mike grab the feature article and cover ! Great issue of MR!
