QR barcodes on ESM Newsletter

Anybody scan the QR barcode on the latest ESM Newsletter with their handheld device?  Might be worth getting in the habit of giving them a look-see in the months to come.

How would one know ahead of time if the bar code was to actually give you the info you expected ?
Does scanning it result in a transfer of our info to who ?
Too many of those things are used for donations .
Has anybody gotten burnt scanning those things ?

Its a "fancy" barcode. Not to much to worry about, you should be more worried which application to install on your phone to scan the thing

Rich, QR barcodes usually are URL links.  But they also can be used to transmit v-cards, map coordinates, phone numbers, email addresses, text messages, calendar events, Facebook/Twitter social links, and wi-fi connectivity settings.  It doesn't force your device to transmit-send or transfer-out anything.  It's a read-only transaction.

Rest assured that there will be nothing nefarious with any QR codes generated by ESM.

I think a phone app is the only way currently.  And no, your phone# isn't tracked.   All it does is save you the effort of having to key in the URL manually into your cell phone internet browser.

It's the same as when Tom had his Weathering Factory URL as a QR barcode on the back of his t-shirt when he gave the clinic at the N scale convention earlier this summer.

They are read only... there's no black helicopters...

Other aps are Shopsavy, QR Reader, Barcode Scanner, etc. All are avail for Android/iPhone.
