A few pics from my trip to Fairbanks last week:


The Denali train heading southbound on Wednesday for Anchorage (as seen from our conference room window at UAF)

The cruise ship company excursion cars for Denali in the middle of the train:



The dedication plaque on the old ARR passenger depot:



And the end of the line about 250 feet down the track from the plaque:



The flatcars in this shot from the ARR freight yard had RETIRED spray painted down the side in white paint:



And, although its a bit pixelated due to the close crop and the use of a 3.2MP cell phone camera, this car has clearly traveled a lot of miles:



The new passenger depot is on the far side of the yard from the freight house and engine service terminals:



And it has a couple of displays that could keep Ian busy for hours:

CN 1st X371 rolls through Lovekin behind IC1007 and CN 8908. The crew described the 1007 as a 'piece of junk' to a passing crew that ribbed them on having the pride of the fleet leading. 1233.

As a pair of locals watch, CEFX 1014 pulls through the siding at Lovekin with 143's train as an eastbound bears down on them. 1803hrs.

The conductor exchanges pleasantries with the bridgetender as the Havelock crosses the swing span over the Trent Severn waterway. 1539hrs.
