ooh no! :o I'm in trouble DTI and Ann Arbor 86ers along with C&O offset hoppers! Thank goodness I model Chessie in 1979-1980! I can get by with only a couple of these since I already have 4 of the B&O's and the Chessie ones will be on the way down the road.

Can anyone tell me how late these boxcars were in service, or if they still are today?  I know the paint would be old, but would either the rock or ic fit on a 2005-present layout if they show some wear and weathering?

I've never bought any of the cars from them, but I plan to contact my LHS tonight and see if they can still order the IC boxcar set that was announced in March.  I've heard good things about the cars from Bluford and ready to try them out!

I think 2005 might be pushing it for the Rock car if it was in service still it would have been quite a rust bucket! It would make a good weathering project for sure! I believe the Rock went defunct in 1979 or 80. As far as the IC car goes you might want to check E-bay I see them on there from time to time. But I would definatley get some of these cars there good models I have a large fleet of the bluford and trainworx cars and both are excellent, I also have some of the bluford 70-ton hoppers and they quite nice.

Yeah, that would be pretty unlikely but you might consider the ICG-CN cars:

(bottom of the page)
We see them around here pretty regularly.

Craig,

Those I will be getting, are you still taking the pre-orders for them?  I plan on contacting my shop tonight to place the order.

Thanks,
Mike
Oh sure, they're still available for pre-order.

Mike,
Unittrain and Craig are correct.
The Rock shutdown in March of '80.
After the shutdown, Grand Trunk bought some of the GP38-2's that The Rock had [The majority went to the MoPac]
But getting back to the boxcars, I seem to recall that they were also purchased buy the Grand Trunk.
I don't think they wasted much time repainting things either.

So for 2005, I think it would be a stretch, but then again....it's your world.

Just a teeny bit off-topic, but could anyone suggest any of the released 14 panel hoppers that one might reasonably see on PRR lines in 1956? I have some of the offset hoppers, but really want some excuse to buy some 14 panel jobbies.

Same thing happened to me for much of Wednesday.  The website got moved to a new IP address sometime late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, but the old server remained active.  If your DNS cache didn't flush, or your DNS servers didn't propagate timely, you got sent to the old server.

New York Central got their first cars that year and those were the first 14-panel cars...
