1950s Mayflower moving van

I want to make a model of this vintage Mayflower moving van.  Would anyone have some ideas on what to kitbash this out of, or would it have to be rendered from scratch?  The trailer appears to be a 35-footer that could be based on the CMW Aero Van.  Is the truck commercially available?  Would anyone know of any drawings or specifications for this trailer, since the rear and reverse side are not visible here?  Thanks.

Mayflower doesn't have a home here in Baltimore... ;)

"Literally in the middle of the night on on March 29th, 1984, 13 trucks from Mayflower showed up, packed everything the team owned, and the Baltimore Colts were no more."

that being said, that truck is sweet

Cool - an IH cab.  CMW makes those.  The trailer might have to be a `bash though.

Bryan,

As I recall, Ultimate N Scale produced (in cast resin) the only vintage n-scale moving van trailer.

That tractor looks like a predecessor to the IH R140? The black front end in the pic makes it hard to tell but the fenders look spot on for the CMW model; it's the grill area that presents as thinner than the CMW unit.

Ultimate N Scale makes a 41-48 Federal tractor w/ sleeper (B-2713) that could provide the extended cab body you need; perhaps graft on the (modified) nose from a CMW International? Here's the Federal tractor model (red unit): http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/data/500/weekend_update_119.jpg

This is kinda what I have in mind: http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/ih/ih_sleeper1b.gif. It seems like you'll need to remove the inner dualie axle on a CMW IH 18-wheel model to get the proper frame length w/ the longer cab fit.

Like Neville, I vaguely remembered Ultimate N Scale having a moving trailer. They're website kinda sucks for easily locating a product though. Not sure what happened to Neville's image, but here it is: http://www.ultimatenscale.com/images/2303-s.jpg

OH, and here's a few more reference photos, the first an IH the second a REO -

Those all look like they'll fit the bill, thanks.

For some reason the image doesn't want to appear when linked directly, but I found the link and pic in the list of trailers on the site.

The UNS casting is close.  But I'm beginning to think that the CMW AeroVan might be a better starting point.

Mayflower would have to grant permission for decals that would be sold.  They must do that, or have some sort of licensing program, given the prolific amount of Mayflower-decorated models year in and year out.  The added benefit of going through proper channels is that they may have all of their historic marketing artwork archived and readily accessible - also a safe assumption given the amount of vintage Mayflower models seen regularly.

Bryan,

I was perusing the old Lineside/new RP Hobbies line of former Road Apples vehicles and ran across this moving trailer -http://www.rphobbies.com/1941-chevy-tractor-and-trailer-moving-van.html  It looks like it's different from the previous recommendation, not a recast. It's not quite as squat as the one in your photo though.

Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Hmmm, some of the horizontal belt rails are different but it looks pretty close.  It at least give a good indication of the configuration of the doors.
