Via racing through the curve at Lovekin. Love this location, hard to screw up a shot here:

Nothing new, so I'll throw up some old steam shots.

I've got a couple of weeks of CRHS board meeting trip to go through, so I'm going to do it chronologically.

On our way up, we cruised through Harrisburg. We were coming across the Susquehanna on 83 and saw these guys rolling along. I had always wanted to get a picture here, and so shooting from the passenger seat was the best I could do.

Then rolling through HARRIS

And here's the real reason we took the detour... a Big Wheel Big Box in 2011.

Next week we move on to Lewistown and the Juniata Valley.

I'm heading out to Altoona at 3:30AM tomorrow morning for the weekend for the first railfan time of the year, so hopefully I will have some good stuff to post starting next week. Too bad I'm sure NS is going to turn the UP Olympic unit around that was on today's 10E into Conway instead of sending her further east.  :'(

I must say that today was one of the slowest days I have ever seen through Altoona, PA; and with nice snow coming down too.  :'( I will have to check if there was a derailment or if it was the weather that impacted everything. Thankfully, I used points to get my hotel room.  ;D 9 hours yielded only 14 trains of which only 1 was a manifest freight. The only redeeming quality of today (other than taking pictures of trains in the snow) was seeing NS SD60E 6900 and getting 6 SD80MACs (gotta get them here since CSX shiped theirs off to lease in Mexico  :'( ). Hopefully tomorrow will yield some trains and some interesting power in the Juniata Shops.

All this talk about railfanning the middle division got my juices flowing.  Have made up my mind that after the Conrail BBQ I'm going to make a trip west to Altoona and the Curve after the BBQ.  Open to suggestions on where to stop for photos on the way.  Probably stay out and return home Monday after the BBQ.

Ed, what is the scoot? The RJ Corman train? Plenty of SD80MACs around on Sunday too with them brining a 591 coal train for Baltimore into Rose Yard and then they turned around and headed back to Cresson on a 7 locomotive train 960 with another SD80MAC. I know only have one more number to go for the NS SD80MACs.  :P Sunday was what Saturday should have been. The same amount of real trains (as in train movements that are not helpers) in less time. Not to mention a BNSF ES44DC on an empty ethanol, lots of heavy freight trains, and I caught an ex-UP SD90AC being spun around on the turntable at Juniata.  ;D If only I could have stayed a few more hours.

The scoot is the mine run out of South Fork that gets the 80s.

Where all did you shoot? I've gotta finish processing my stuff from last weekend, but we did Lilly and then the Slide before heading home. Solid day.

I just stayed downtown and froze. Since the walkway is officially closed from November 1st to April 1st, the city has no obligation to shovel the sidewalk. Even with boots and 2 pairs of socks, it was still cold and wet stepping in the snow to get by the fence. Like I said though, train pictures with snow falling... totally worth it.

Yep. We were there doing that exact thing two saturdays ago. At least there's the MickyDees to take a leak in and get warm though.
