The Refining of a Track Plan

I never got around to marking the elevations on the plan. Most all of the track along the front would have 1" elevation. Mine branch rises to 2"; loop around the back drops to 0" under the mine. Offhand I don't know what the grades are, but I did a rough calculation and it looks like the mine branch might be ~2.5%.

If that's a 15" radius, it'll be 2.12%. If it is around 12.5" (which is what it looks like), then it'll be 2.6%,

So is this the N Scale equivalent to the HO Scale debate over the value/use of the 4x8?

This discussion can turn south real quick if not careful 

I've wondered why I haven't seen many plans in N scale which feature a loop of track (half hidden) with a branch line that wraps around to some sort of industrial center? Plenty of those in HO scale, eh, not so much in N scale.
