Has anyone added DCC to an older SD-40 ? I want to do it a few of mine and was wondering which decoder is best for the job ?

On a side note, As a Conrail modeler, are the newer SD-40-2's good for being painted into CR models?
I know Kato made an SD-40-2 a long time ago, but those are impossible to find. Plus, I'd like to use the ditch lights.

http://www.tcsdcc.com/Customer_Content/Products/Decoders/N-Scale/ClassicN/CN-Series.htm

these will be your best friend, as long as you have some kind of minor soldering skills, requires soldering to the brush holders and 3 pads on the decoders, super easy, and awesome decoders. I have at least 6 of them

delamaize, Thanks for the link.
However, TCS did not shown SD-40 being done. Instead they showed a kato U boat. Would you say the insides are the same?

Thank you, central.vermont. That's a whole different install when you have to literally solder wires onto the decoder.

Thank You.

I have used the TCS CN in both older Kato's the SD40 and SD45 with excellent results. I think the frames are identical. The installs are as easy as the instructions show on TCS's website. Check out the generic CN install info first. http://www.tcsdcc.com/Customer_Content/Technical_Info/Tech_Manuals/TCS_Book_of_Classic_N_Installations.pdf . After a you do a few they go quick as well.
