It's time to replace a truck on the CN coach at Pine Creek Railroad...

:-)

Importantly, that's actually an ex-Con.

It's my friend Kevin's former Rebel XT. Nothing fancy, but I got the deal I had been watching for for years.

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.

I thought you might. Those are what kept us from meeting up on Sat. I'm glad you think they were worth it .

Rich, that thing is so hot. I was meaning to ask someone, how do all those ditchlights work? Are they all on all the time? Some alternate?

I looked at all my shots from that day Ed and only the headlights were on. Maybe they dont need to turn on the others while inside the yard?

Ditch lights are usually only on when actually travelling out on the main track. They're dimmed or off when doing yard switching or parked in a siding for a meet.

With that light configuration, this unit is probably ex-BC Rail. They equipped all their units with the second set of lights. The upper lights are rock lights, and as I understand it, they're angled so that the beams cross ahead of the train and provide wider visibility to see potential rock falls.

Thanks Chris, I always wondered why BCR units looked like rally cars up front. That makes a lot of sense.

Correct,

DL 2461 was BCOL 811 and before that EL 2461.

As an aside, I just watched the Pentrex From Sea to Sky DVD last night, which includes lots of cab footage of the BC Rail line from Squamish to Lillooet.  At several points you can see this lighting in action in some of the narrow tunnel and cut shots.

I highly recommend this disk by the way.  What a line!  Can't wait to see it in person.  :D
