Atlas Classic RS-3's (post 2007-8)

I have three that run incredibly slow at full-throttle...just wanted to confirm with others that have the Atlas Classic RS-3's.

As I can't exactly define "incredibly slow at full-throttle" I can confirm that mine run slower than normal.

I've got one of my own, and just did three decoders for Henry.  They're all a little tight, but the speed is comparable to some slow speed GP9's I have.

I had a GP9 that did the same..I checked and couldn't find anything binding so,I did one of the oldest tricks in the book..I took the locomotive completely apart and reassembled it..It now runs like a normal Atlas locomotive with a slow speed motor not extremely fast and not extremely slow at full throttle..

Sorry,I have no idea since it was one of those things that fixes its self when you reassemble the locomotive

The most likely culprit might the little brackets that hold the motor in place.  If one is spun a little out of alignment, it'll create a bind.

I checked and triple checked for binding, its snug but nothing out of the ordinary that I am used to with Atlas locos. I have another install to complete tonight so we'll see what happens. I'm guessing that once I adjust the kick/rate for the speed control she'll get a little more pep in her step.

One clue would be if she's a little noisier.  A bind will create a definite buzz in the linkage.

Another trick I've found helpful is to do the Ron Beardon trick, removing the inner bearing block.  But what I do is take a little Rat Tail file and ream out the inner bearing so it holds the worm in place, but doesn't contact the shaft...  A little lubey lube, and you're off to the races!
