Dave,  the "stand-in" looks good.  Regarding decal film, go with Micro-Mark next time as their clear film is extremely thin.  They make it in clear and white, for lasers and inkjets.

By the way, the reason the font is NYC is because Dairy Shippers Despatch (DSDX) was owned by MDT during that time period.  It's possible that the RailFont is not 100% accurate, but it's nearly so and the prototype font definitely is NYC.

Not being critical, just friendly advice here... You may want to decrease the font size and increase the tracking between letters on the reporting marks.

On Friday Greg Kennelly (PGE Modeller) and I ventured north to Squamish to see the new roundouse at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park, and the unveiling of the newly restored PGE express car 722. 




As you can see, it is a former U.S. Army troop sleeper, one of several which the Pacific Great Eastern Railway acquired and converted to head-end cars.  I have posted some photos here:

Wow I'm late this week.  Long weekend, and not in the good way...  Anyway,

On the morning of the 24th, the dignitaries aboard the Pennsylvania Special awoke in the Columbia yards.  Their GG-2 had already been serviced and was ready to continue the journey.  One of the PRR's own, Mr. Welsh narrated the trip for the assembled guests.



As they got underway, the Special passed through a curved tunnel, whose radius was tight enough to allow the crowd assembled in the dome to see the GG-2 blast out the other side!



In the early morning light, the Special turned south.  This was, after all, only a two-day trip, and there was yet one more railroad to cover before the trip would end in Washington, D.C. that night.

Thanks for the suggestion for the font and the decal film. I didn't realize the connection between DSDX and MDT, so it all makes sense now. I am still planning on doing some etched brass car sides, but I am going to start with these cars instead of the URTX ones that we discussed previously as the layout of this car is a bit more straightforward.

Critical is great! This is the perfect forum for that. Thanks for the comments, and I totally agree. I also need to squash the D a bit as well, and try to lighten the overall weight of the font. Maybe a smaller size and then bold it. I am waiting for the actual slide of this car to arrive in the mail from an eBay auction, and I will be able to match the marks a bit better.

I'm late to the party, but castings of Chris' exquisite truck kitbash for the milk car just arrived today.

Began restoration of a GRS searchlight signal.  My friend Joe and I braved the 95 degree heat to strip down, sand, repair and repaint a full size searchlight signal. We got her to primer and will hopefully have it done for the CRHS's RailBQ in Marion, OH on the 31st. If we can get there, we'll also have it at the Central PA RailBQ in the Harrisburg area on August 14 (Come one, come all!). My friend and I will hopefully have a couple for sale once we get our art perfected, and will offer full mast/signal setups for those interested. More pics next weekend.
