After the NTS in MILW, I was thinking of going to Chicago and photographing the Huletts before they disappear. Anyone on the forum know if access is possible? Contacts for access? etc ...

I could swear I read they were gone earlier this year, but I can't remember where I heard it.

The last huletts in Chicago are no more.  Boatnerd.com had 2 pictures in their photo gallery from today.  The information posted there said that one machine was already gone and the scrap had been hauled away by barge.  The second machine was about half gone and that was as of a few weeks ago.

As of February 19 there was one Hulett still standing, February 25 the bucket had been removed, by the following week everything was gone.

Yes it does, especially since TrainCat detail kits to convert the HO Walthers models to N scale would be well received . . . I'm just sayin . . .

I never knew the cab was down in the bucket area , and getting in looks akin to NASCAR . Can you say black lung . What a slow miserable job , only exceeded by the Payloader operator , and the broom man . Thanks for posting that video .

I bought the plans awhile ago and have several structural pieces already done. But a brass Hulett would not have a plastic price. I plan to work on this when I want a break from other projects and will release the PRR H-25 and H-39 hoppers with it.

I really wanted to see one of the magnificent machines in person though. I had been planning/expecting to see these as soon as John Glabb told me that Walthers was going to do a HO Huelett. John and I spent hours at Timonium show (empty because it was Superbowl Sunday couple of years ago) going over the project. Making the model from plans is one thing, seeing the machine is another. The feeling I had when I actually saw the Canyon Diablo bridge in front of me and knowing what it took to build that bridge of the canyon in temperature extremes of the AZ desert is something that I am glad I got to do. Again, having them razed just sucks.

at the NKP convention in Huron 2 years ago a presenter did a slide show of time lapsed image of the hueletts over a 20 year (at least) span.

the guy was a travelling salesman and took pictures of the hueletts every time he visited Huron to see his wife's family on holidays.  So you actually saw the pictures for the same "angles" and "photo spots" over the years, as they werein action, and the later years.

You couls see the buidlings come and go, and the scenery change... and the big Hueletts were always still there....  alas, they are gone.

My wallet shutters just thinking about an n scale brass kit.

Wow, reminds me of the movie, "Dune," for some reason. Well, I know why... the Huletts are so ponderous, much like the machinery in the movie.
