CV29 before or after CV17/18

I need to direct/phys program my address for my Challenger, but which came first chicken or the egg scenario with regards to CV29? I've read on another forum that you should program CV29 after editing the address so as not to "lose" it during the address sending, so it defaults to the primary address. So which is it?

Yeah I was thinking of JMRI, but I havent set it up on the new laptop yet (ie. to be read as I'm lazy as hell since I'm on a computer 8 hours a day). Guess I know what I'll be doing the next couple of days! If that doesnt work I'll bring it over . Thanks John!

If you are programming on the main (operations mode) always program the address first. Then turn it on by changing CV29.

If programming on a program track (not operations mode) it doesn't matter but I always save CV29 for last.

JMRI knows when to do it.

I think you can have a 2 digit address stored in CV1 and a 4 digit in CVs 17 & 18.  Then you can toggle back and forth with CV 29 depending on which you want.  So, it should always work to put in 17 & 18 first.
