Another C&O question please

Hello again.

I think ive decided on my first real steam "kitbash" and its a relatively minor one, and that is to make a Life Like 0-8-0 into a C&O C-16. Seems like a nice first project; move the air pump, add a air tank, change the walkways around a bit, move the headlight, and modify the sides of the cab, and it will be quite close. Does anyone know for sure what tender the C-16 used? The one the LL model comes with isnt exactly right, is the USRA short tender Bachmann has the right one? Depending on how this goes, I may try and make one of my kato 2-8-2s into a K-1.

Bit easier (and less ambitious) than mallets..!

Not sure but a C-16 looks an awfully lot like the Walthers loco to start with, tender and all.....

I would use the LL tender and rebuild the coal bunker:

More research shows that the Walthers 0-8-0 is a C-11.....

OK, i couldnt find any good pics of the tender that showed a side view, it is a good match already it appears, and i figured this would be a good project for me. The only pics of C-16s I have are either the ones i can find on the C&OHS archive search which are small, and the couple I have in my books here (I reeeealy need to get a C&O loco book). No major butchery! Thanks much, looks like the tender that comes with the loco will work nicely.

I am getting one with the ladder front end, a bit closer to the C-16s front end, but the walkway and air pump on the fireman's side arent quite right, and the cab is different, and the headlight. Should be within my realm.

Kind of excited, a steam project in N i am pretty sure I can actually handle.

Yeah, the C&O liked the USRA 0-8-0. That's how N&W ended up with C&O C-16 0-8-0s (they bought some almost new ones from C&O in 1950 - they liked them much and made some copies ;D).

So I'm pretty much gonna be kitbashing a C-16.
