Recent Athearn release

Here's something that slipped by me when it was announced back
on 7/20/2009. Was at one of my local hobby shops when I spied
this in one of their cases.
Athearn released this very nice looking model of a CN van. Goes
great with my steam era modeling!!

Those are (unless I am way, way off) the old Roundhouse tooling three window wood sises, re-released. Now; I'm not being critical of them; but I bought five PRR cars for $ 18.00 total at a show last year and turned them into CPR two window vans....







I frequently see the original cars at shows, swap meets and even in hobby shops for around $ 8.00 - $ 10.00 - throw on a pair of better trucks w/ MT's and you've got the same car my LHS is hawking for $ 18.00...

Still; they did a nice paint job on the CNR version.....

They are definately not correct for roads they painted. We don't order many, but we actually sell them out. When they did Southern on the first release, they went very quickly down here.

    They have added some new paint schemes and revised others to this former MDC car. Search back in the previous postings (threads) for my description of these cars in Denver & Rio Grande Western paint schemes,which kind of turned into a Rio Grande Caboose history with pix of various makers D & R G cabeese. Nate Goodman (Nato). Salt Lake,Utah. "A good stand in for a CP car,but the cupola should be much taller with usually a single side wimdow on each side (CP Modelers correct me if I'am wrongo)."
