Out of curiosity - as a manufacturer - what is your thought on offering faded (not weathered!) models?

We've done it in the past back when we were painting and printing on other manufacturers' plastic.  We specifically used a weathered black on the P&LE 90-ton hopper two pack in order to allow the black paint-outs to be visible.  I wouldn't have any problem with it - whether faded, weathered or re-stenciled - but generally I wouldn't do it on a first release.

A big thanks to Ian for suggesting I contact MMA directly and supplying contact information.  The folks there and at DuPont were very helpful.  I had not realized that MMA is still BAR - the name was changed when ownership changed in 2003.  As such, many of the BAR archival records still exist.

BTW, the paint and print colors for both the R/W/B State of Maine scheme and the all-red scheme are Old Glory Red, White, and Old Glory Blue - the official colors of the United States flag.

This has got to be a legacy of the BAR. My lone and highly-memorable experience with 'fanning the BAR was back around '80, when the BL2's and F3's were still around. Living in California at the time, a buddy and I had a chance to do a highly compressed railfan tour of New England. We popped into the Bangor yard office for permission to look around, and they all but rolled out the red carpet. The clerk put a couple of releases on the counter, "Sign here, just don't fall in the turntable pit", telling us in so many words we had the run of the place. It was amazing - talk about neat-as-a-pin, with stored power protected under tarps, and you could nearly eat off the floor in the roundhouse it was so clean.

First-class operation, and it's nice to hear that they still run a proud, friendly operation.
